National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP), the largest and one of the most significant initiatives in Automotive sector so far, represents a unique joining of hands between the Government of India, a number of State Governments and Indian Automotive Industry to create a state of the art Testing, Validation and R&D infrastructure in the country. The Project aims at creating core global competencies in Automotive sector in India and facilitate seamless integration of Indian Automotive industry with the world as also to position the country prominently on the global automotive map. NATRiP is an organization through which automobile companies could get a testing ground (proving ground) to launch their vehicles worldwide as accordingly to their road conditional driving and taking many technical aspects before debut in the country. Natrip has a big plans to drive Indian Automobile sector to the peak in the world where many fresh talents are being recruited to boost up the automobile industries. BAJA SAEINDIA 2009 is going to be conducted at NATRAX - National Automobile Test Tracks under aegis of NATRIP in Pithampur where many Intercollegiate teams going to compete for BAJA race on a specially designed track which is 4 km long comprising of all the testing areas which proves a student innovation and technical implementations been done on Baja vehicle. Various workshops are being organized at various parts of INDIA by NATRIP for the students to help them to design and fabricate their vehicles. The organization is also helping the teams to convince the companies to sponsor the teams. The organization is also helping the teams to acquire stuff from abroad and other automobile parts at a subsidized price. The facilities under NATRiP at Manesar, Chennai, VRDE Ahmednagar , ARAI Pune, Rae Bareilly, Silchar and Indore will not only provide comprehensive homologation and product testing and validation facilities for vehicles and components but will also foster global competencies for generic research and development geared to catapult India into the league of nations with automotive excellence. NATRiP centres will house several "Centre of Excellence" for advanced research in emerging areas of technologies. The facilities are planned to cater to the complete process of development of new components which including (a) Research strategy: markets targeted and investment/outsourcing of R&D activities, (b)Concept development: styling, design and engineering, (c) Product development: materials and prototyping, (d) Industrialization: cost reduction, quality improvement, (e) Product life: quality and fatigue. Pithampur is a large Industrial Area situated near Indore where many leading companies are have their own setup from which the products and services been provided throughout India and abroad. Pithampur, which has earned the sobriquet of the Detroit of India for being hub of various automobile industries, will soon emerge as an important destination for Formula 1 car race in the country. A beginning in this regard has already been made with development of the National Automotive Test Track (NATRAX) here, the longest so far in the country. With the development of this track, Pithampur will become an important destination for automotive testing and special racing events in the country. The track has been developed by the National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRIP), a project under the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. It aims to establish world class proving grounds across at Pithampur spread-over in an area of 4,123 acres of land, in addition to six other testing centres across India.
